I am so proud of myself. I got in over two hours of leisure reading today and it feels so good. Granted, the reason I could do that so easily was because I spent most of that time on a plane…
I’m still reading State of Wonder and I really underestimate how good the story is. Right now they are in the jungle and Marina has just met one of the women of the Lakashi tribe who appears to be in her sixties or seventies but is pregnant. See, the drug company sent its scientists out to the Peruvian jungle to study the women of this tribe because they are able to bear children well into their seventies and beyond (obviously they don’t know about Sarah, Abraham’s wife). So their purpose is to develop a drug that can replicate this eternal ability of women to reproduce well into the golden years so the drug company can sell it in America.
It sounds a bit far-fetched in theory but as I read the book I am actually starting to believe it could be possible. Ann Patchett is such a good writer. There’s the back story but then there are the individual characters and as I learn more about them as individuals I find that the book has so many stories going on. I like it.
I think I have finally settled on a name for my new business. I’ve talked it over with my business partner and we have gone back and forth for the last week or so just trying to settle on one we can both live with and feel happy waking up to. I think we finally have it… I’ll be sure when I wake up in the morning and don’t decide that it still isn’t right.
Now I have to get back to work on the new business. The conference I flew to starts early in the morning tomorrow. I hope it turns out to be worth it all.
